Course Details

  Great Books meet True Crime as we explore the criminal conspiracy to assassinate the president. We will tie this story to the events of the American Civil War, and the flight of the Confederate President, Jefferson Davis, while Lincoln’s funeral train heads to Springfield, and America attempts to reunite North and South. The course is based on two youth history books by best-selling author, James L. Swanson. The first two sessions are drawn from, Chasing Lincoln's Killer, and the third and fourth sessions from Bloody Times.

Session One

In Session One, we will cover the following: The Killing of Lincoln and Chasing John Wilkes Booth; The Conspirators, Their Beliefs, and Their Motivations; The events of April 1865; and The Manhunt and Fate of the Conspirators. We will also take a Course Summary and Knowledge Quiz.

In Session Two, we will discuss an Overview of the U.S. Civil War and then take a Course Summary and Knowledge Quiz.

In Session Three, we will discuss Chasing Jefferson Davis and the journey of President Lincoln's funeral train to Springfield. We will also take a Course Summary and Knowledge Quiz.
